The
East Midtown Coalition for Sensible Development (EMCSD)
is a community-based organization of concerned individuals established
to insure that all development in the severely congested area
of East Midtown Manhattan be sensible, that any such development
will only serve to improve and enhance the neighborhood's quality
of life, and simultaneously benefit current and future residents.
Members
include representatives from the well over 10,000 apartments in
the dozens of residential buildings impacted by the sale and development
of the Consolidated Edison sites between 35th and 41st streets
on First Avenue and representatives of Community Board 6, the
East Side Rezoning Alliance and numerous neighborhood associations
that include-The Murray Hill Neighborhood Association, MECA, The
Turtle Bay Association, Tudor City, Sutton Area Community, Inc.
(SAC), and others as they join our cause.
Other
members of EMSCD include representatives, Assemblyman Steve
Sanders, Assembly Member Dick Gottfried, City Council Woman, Eva
Moscowitz, Congress Woman Carolyn Maloney, State Senators Liz
Kruger and Tom Duane, Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia
Fields and Council Woman Margarita Lopez.
Understanding
that change is inevitable, EMSCD plans to consult and cooperate
with both the private and public sector to effect improvements
in the neighborhood.
It
will employ the skills of urban planners, environmental consultants,
and attorneys, in order to provide the community with the united
and clear voice that will be heard both at City Hall and in corporate
boardrooms.
